A trip to Pismo Beach, CA just isn’t complete without a visit to Cracked Crab, one of the best seafood shacks in all of San Luis Obispo County. All you need is a bib and a mallet to keep the good times and great food coming! Find out more below and make sure to stop by the next time you are in Pismo!
The Menu
If the name of the restaurant wasn’t clear, Cracked Crab is all about the crab. Whether you are in the mood for crab bisque, crab cakes, crab salad, or a good old fashioned crab boil, this place has it all!
Some of our favorites include the Crab Dip Appetizer, a huge portion of blue crab serviced with warm, grilled sourdough bread grilled; the Crab Bisque (our co-founder could literally eat a bucket it is so good!); the Soft Shell Crab Sandwich with french fries; and of course the Big Bucket for Two with Dungeness Crab from Alaska, Snow Crab, and if we’re really feeling fancy, the Maine Lobster Tails. Yum!
The menu at Cracked Crab is completely based on what is fresh and available that day, so you may not get to try some of our favorites when you visit. Don’t worry though – we can guarantee the food will be delicious, whatever it is you try!
Most Popular Dishes
By far the most popular dish at Cracked Crab is the Bucket. Served as a Single Bucket for one, or a Big Bucket for two, this is one of the most fun ways to play with your food and actually enjoy eating it too!
Both sizes of the bucket comes with your three choices of shellfish, spicy cajun sausage, red potatoes, and corn cobetts. The shellfish choices include Dungeness Crab from Alaska, Wild Gulf Shrimp, Snow Crab, Mussels, or Clams at no extra charge.
You can also upgrade your bucket with premium shellfish options like Maine Lobster Tail, Alaskan Red King Crab, Whole Live WA State Dungeness Crab, or Alaskan Bairdi Crab (prices listed on their daily menu).
Once you decide what combination of shellfish you want included in your bucket you can sit back and wait…until the waiter comes and dumps the bucket on your table! Then it’s time to really dig in; just make sure you’ve got your bib and mallet handy!
Drinks
Cracked Crab has an extensive wine list featuring the various wine regions of San Luis Obispo County. They also have lots of beer options for those that want a few more hops with their crab, including two from our local brewhouses, Firestone Walker and Barrelhouse Brew Company.
If Beer or Wine aren’t your favorites they also have cider from Tin City Cider, a local cider house located in Paso Robles. You can really have a full meal featuring all the best parts of SLO County when you visit Cracked Crab!
History
Mike and Kathy Lee opened Cracked Crab in Pismo Beach in May 1999 after working for many years in the corporate restaurant business. Their mission is “to provide excellent food and service to all of our guests in a clean, comfortable, and FUN atmosphere”, which they have been doing since their doors opened two decades ago.
Mike and Kathy have always had an eye towards fresh, local seafood, meat, and produce too; today they still serve local fish daily; have a local butcher and baker where they source meat and bread; and still gets their fresh produce from Peacock Farms (who even built a greenhouse of tomatoes just for them!).
